Winning Gin Rummy
Winning Gin Rummy - A normal turn is made up of two parts:
1. Drawing Cards. To start you have to draw a game card from either the stock pile or the top of the discard pile and add it to your hand. So you can see in advance what you are getting, the discard pile is face up. Since the pile of stock cards is face down, when you elect to take a stock card, you do not get to see it until after you take it. When you add a card to your hand, you do not want others to know what you have drawn.
2. Discard. One card must be discarded from your hand and placed on top of the discard pile face up to complete your turn. Taking the top discard and putting the same card back is not permitted, so if you took the top card from the discard pile, you must discard a different card.
The draw is done in a special way for the first turn of the hand in all Gin Rummy games.
To begin, the non-dealer decides whether to pick up the card that was turned up during the deal. The dealer may take the card if the non-dealer does not take it. The non-dealer draws the top card from the stock pile if both players refuse the turned-up card. It is the other player’s turn to play when whichever player took a card completes their turn by discarding.
