Card games, Gin Rummy

The game can begin differently, dealing 11 cards to the non-dealer, 10 to the dealer, and without turning up the first card games on the stock. On his first turn, the non-dealer simply discards a card, and then the dealer either takes the discard or draws from the stock (a normal turn); thereafter, players alternate taking normal turns.

Although the conventional rules do not allow a player from taking the previous player’s discard and throwing out the same game card, I can’t think of a time where it would benefit someone to do it even if they could. This play is allowed by the Gin Rummy Rules. According to the Game Rules this is allowed when you have reached the 50th card. If a player pulls the third last card games of the stock and places a card down without knocking, leaving two cards in the stock, the other player has a chance to pull the discard and knock. At this time, the drawn card can be discarded — if it doesn’t improve the player’s hand, just flip it face down on the discard pile, thereby knocking.

In this instance the bonus for a gin and undercut is 25 and 20 respectively, as opposed to 20 and 10. Others play that all bonuses for going gin, the box for games won, and for an undercut are 25 points

There are a number of players who say if a player does not score throughout the entire game, the winner’s whole score is then doubled (rather than just doubling the 100 bonus to 200).

There are many versions of the game which have been compiled by readers; these are posted on the Gin Rummy Variations page.
