Basic Oklahoma Gin Rules – how to play Online Oklahoma Gin Rummy.
Oklahoma Gin rummy is another popular Rummy variant, especially in the US. Standard deck of 52 cards is deal to the players, no Jokers allowed. Head to head version of the Oklahoma Gin Rummy is played with 10 cards to each player. If the table is 3-4 players, like most online tables of Oklahoma Gin Rummy, each player plays with 7 cards only. Each card value as its face value, royal cards are all 10 points and Ace equal to 1 point. These values are important for the time you count your deadwood gap to the winner, in case you lost the Oklahoma Gin Rummy round.
There are three ways to win the Oklahoma Gin Rummy game: you can win Oklahoma Gin Rummy by going Gin, you can win Oklahoma Gin Rummy by knocking and you can be the Oklahoma Gin Rummy Royal winner if you undercut the so called winner.
- Going Gin: You can win by going Gin is you have melt all your cards into sets and runs and you have no deadwood, no unmatching cards left. In this case you lay all your cards on the table and you discard your last card to the pile.
- Knocking: You are knocking and winning the Oklahoma Gin Rummy round if you meld all your cards and your deadwood value is equal to the opening card’s face value, or lower that it.
- Undercut: My favorite way to win Oklahoma Gin Rummy rounds. You undercut the player who thought he is the winner is your deadwood value is lower than his. If a player Knock and he have value of 5 in his unmatching cards, you can show your cards with deadwood of 3 only, now you have undercut him and won the Oklahoma Gin Rummy.
In case the Oklahoma Gin Rummy round winner went Gin, you can lay your cards on the table and meld them into sets and runs, in order to reduce your deadwood value. You want to do that because this is your penalty points you like to reduce.
In case the Oklahoma Gin Rummy round winner knocked, you have a better chance to reduce your deadwood value because now you can add your unmatched cards to the knocker sets and runs. You can add cards only to the winner original melds and by that you have better chance to get mush lower penalty points.
