How to play Gin Mexican Rummy

Learn how to play Gin Mexican Rummy

Gin Mexican Rummy is originally known as Conquian. It is very popular in Mexico. Gin Rummy is normally played between two players. It can be played by more than two players but the players will run out of cards which are required to make the game last long. The deck of cards would include all the cards except for 8s, 9s, and 10s of all suits. A player in Gin Mexican Rummy gets ten cards and the rest of the cards are used to form a part of the stock on the playing table. The players’ main aim is always to meld 11 cards. This is known as going out.

Melding would involve having a combination of cards which are allowed in the play of Gin Mexican Rummy. The cards need to be placed on the table with the faces up. The combinations which are allowed are three or four cards of the same rank or a sequence of three to eight cards of the same suit in a proper order. The order starts with the Ace and Seven will be followed by the Jack, as there is no eight, Nine or Ten in the pack. The Ace cannot be used as a part of the Queen-King-Ace combination, but it can be used as a part of the Ace-2-3. A 6-7-Jack combination is allowed but Queen-King-Ace combination is not allowed.

The melds on the table must always consist of one or more different valid combinations. And a card can never be used as a part of more than one combination at the same time in Gin Mexican Rummy. Maximum limit of a sequence is of eight cards. The game begins when a player besides the dealer turns the top card of the stock face up. That card can then be used by the player or can be passed away. In case it is used, one card from the hand has to be discarded. Play ends when any player goes out or the stock of card runs out.
